11 Valentine’s Date Ideas for You and Your Kids
Valentine’s Day may feel like another “Hallmark Holiday,” an opportunity to purchase chocolates, cards, gifts and flowers for our loved ones. Although I love being showered with flowers and other confectionaries by my husband, I plan on trying something different for this Valentine’s Day. I plan on spending quality time with my little ones. I will take my toddlers on individual day dates throughout the month of February, because I feel like it’s important to not only tell them how much I love them, but also show them and get some much-needed alone time.
Besides, I will tailor each date to their individual personalities. I realize this may not be possible to everyone, but if this idea interests you, I have listed a few date ideas you can try with your little ones no matter where you live.
Go to the Zoo:
Take your little ones to the zoo, as its far less crowded this time of year than in the summertime and the animals are usually more active in the cold weather.
Spread the Love:
You can perform random acts of kindness to strangers, along with your little one, such as paying for the person behind you in the drive-thru line, or donating outgrown clothing items and toys, or handing out single roses to people around your area who look like they need one or giving out home baked goods to your local fire station. It’s a great way to teach them how to express love and appreciation to others.
Watch a Movie:
Check out a newly released movie on the big screen or you can make it a home movie night with popcorn and some couch snuggles. Some great love-themed family movies include: Lady and the Tramp and Finding Nemo.
Head to the Museum:
Search your area for any museums geared toward children such as museums about natural history or science. The exhibit will stimulate an informal learning experience for your child.
Head to the Aquarium:
Search your area for any aquarium or oceanic center. Your little one will love experiencing the ocean world and learn about what it takes to explore and understand our planet.
Have a “Yes” Day:
Say “yes” and agree to everything your little one wants to do, but within reason. This will allow your child to feel special due to your undivided attention and doing an activity of their liking and choice.
Explore Live Events:
If your little one loves sports such as baseball, basketball or football, purchase tickets for you and your child to watch your city’s Home Games. You can also visit your local theater to see if any Broadway show or musical is playing, if that interests your little one too.
Lets Bowl:
You can have an affordable and exciting date with your child at the bowling alley.
Proper Dinner Date:
You and your child can both get dressed up and have a memorable dinner date at a fancy restaurant. This is especially sweet for a daddy and daughter date or a mommy and son date. It is a great way for them to learn about etiquette, while preparing them for future “love interest” dates (in the distant future). If you have a tight budget, you can have your dinner date at home and eat a special meal together.
Go on a Staycation:
Book a night at your local hotel and become a tourist in your own town. Check out any local kid-friendly attractions, especially ones you don’t get a chance to visit very often. You can also just stay in your hotel room and throw on some robes and order room service or have fun filled swimming day if your hotel has an indoor pool.
Be Adventurous:
If your little one loves outdoor activities try skiing, sledding or going ice skating.
